the blue bird

last friday i sipped on my vanilla milkshake and watched the blue bird on youtube. it's a silent film made in 1918 about these two poor children, mytyl and tyltyl, who embark on a journey to find the blue bird of happiness, at the request of fairy berylune. they're assisted by the souls of some things that are in their house who take the form of humans. the film is really cute and magical and the scenery and outfits and messages are all so enchanting. i'd most definitely recommend this film, i loved it so much. the children get to visit mother night and the land of luxury and chief happiness and the happy dead and the unborn children. by the end of the film i'm so jealous that i never experienced such wonder and beauty but i'm also very in love. silent films are really amazing because they can move you without a word being spoken. all that you hear is music.

when i finished the blue bird i felt so cheerful and i just wanted to listen to doris day and dance around the house aw. :-) i had never print screened anything before but i did attempt to when i watched the film so i'm going to share them. it's pretty cool. oh and the above images are from either google or tumblr, i can't remember.

i also watched the 1940 adaptation of the blue bird in which shirley temple stars. i didn't like this one so much but i really did love when mr and mrs luxury said: "they're just too young to appreciate luxury." "or maybe we're too old to escape from it." there's another later version from i think the 70s but i had barely started it before i got bored.
